Making Holly Springs Better

Here’s how we can make Holly Springs an easier and more affordable place to live

Prioritize safe development and reduce traffic

To grow responsibly, we need to:

  • Change our approach from development at all costs to development when it’s worth the cost

    • Residents have made their standard clear to me: If we’re accepting more traffic from a development, the town needs to get something substantial in return

    • We need to focus development where we have needs, including housing that first responders can afford; spaces where seniors can safely age-in-place; and more commercial spaces.

    • Accident rates are up 18% over the past two years. We need to be mindful of how we coordinate development with road improvements to bring this rate down and minimize the disruption to residents’ daily routines.

  • Invest wisely. Town staff has estimated we’ll need $800 million in transportation upgrades in the years ahead. To be less dependent on developers to fund transportation and be good stewards of taxpayers, we need to devote more of our town budget to address our traffic challenges.

  • Prioritize public transportation to reduce congestion and attract out-of-towners to patronize our businesses

Invest in small businesses

We can make it easier and more affordable to run a small business by:

  • Expanding our small business incentive program beyond downtown

  • Helping businesses pool their resources to buy services at cheaper rates

  • Working with our education partners to fund an internship program

Increase engagement

Our leaders make hasty decisions with little input. That must change. We need to:

  • Insist that our mayor be available more frequently. I promise you’ll be able to:

    • See my calendar and schedule time with me online

    • Give me feedback via social media

  • Create a new Office of Outreach and Engagement

    • Our elected officials and staff should be reaching every corner of Holly Springs, all the time, to make sure every resident’s and business’s needs are being heard

  • Prioritize and expand public comment periods at council meetings

  • Make the mayor and council available to HOAs to listen to their needs and plan more effectively

Provide more yard trash removal options

Our trash bins-only approach requires residents to contribute too much time, effort, and money to yard waste clean-up. We can make yard waste removal easier—and preserve water quality—by allowing residents to use different ways to package yard waste, including paper containers and bundling.
